Transforming South LA: Inside $1B in Community-Focused Developments Led by Black Developers

ETHOS joins The Los Angeles Chapter of the African American Real Estate Professionals AAREP LA event looking at monumental projects and acquisitions across South Los Angeles led by Black developers.

ETHOS Real Estate attended a transformative event hosted by the Los Angeles Chapter of African American Real Estate Professionals (AAREP LA) on July 29, 2023. The event offered a behind-the-scenes tour of seven major development sites, collectively valued at approximately $1 billion. These projects reflect a community-first approach to real estate, featuring a mix of affordable housing, retail, office spaces, and a planned creative campus for studio and sound production.

Among the speakers was Jennifer Keith (formerly Jennifer McElyea), managing partner at ETHOS Real Estate, who shared insights on their Crenshaw Crossing project, designed to serve a broad range of tenants. “We’re trying to meet the spectrum of tenant profiles because some people make too much to qualify for affordable housing, but they can’t afford the market. We’re trying to hit every segment of the community,” she explained.

ETHOS also highlighted their Residences at Woodlake in Baldwin Village.

The event, sponsored by the Urban Land Institute (ULI), also showcased the work of local developers in driving equitable growth in South LA. AAREP LA President Kimberly Brown emphasized the organization’s dedication to supporting transformative projects led by community members.
